Fast Facts about the Summer Jobs Program:
• Each year, Youth Ready Chicago receives more than 40,000 applications from young people seeking summer opportunities.
• Most summer opportunities last six to eight weeks, typically beginning late June and ending early August .
• Opportunities may be full-time or part-time.
• Corporate employer participants are required to pay employees hired through Youth Ready Chicago directly and at least minimum wage.
• There is no charge to participating businesses for the prescreening and preparing of candidates services provided by Youth Ready Chicago.
• Participants placed with local employers throughYouth Ready Chicago are ages 14–24. Pre-internships are available at select City agencies for young people who are ages 14-15 and have work permits.
• Each youth is required to have grade point averages of C or above.
• Participants also have experience working within their school or community, and most have professional employment or workforce development experience, as well.
• Youth Ready Chicago has successfully connected many Chicago businesses with high school and college students, including young people with disabilities.
